The Ministry of Transport announced plans this week to expand Cairo's metro system, adding new lines and stations intended to ease congestion across the greater metropolitan area.

The expansion is part of a broader urban mobility strategy that also includes upgrades to bus and ferry routes serving commuters along the Nile.

Officials said construction on the first phase is expected to begin within the coming year, with further details to be released as planning progresses.
